While we've been at
Dorrie's, I've been doing a fair bit of the cooking - and in return,
she has very kindly allowed me to raid her cellar. In addition to the
wines already mentioned, we've opened bottles of 1979 Chateau Chasse
Spleen, 1988 Chateau Gloria and 1988 Chateau Meyney (magnum). On
Christmas Eve, I cooked some duck breasts and we cracked a really
lovely magnum of 1988 Chambolle Musigny, Charmes, and on our final
night (26 December), I cooked a couple of lamb shoulders and we
polished off a magnum of 1979 Chateau Mouton Rothschild (which was a
bit of a let down if I'm honest). All in all, we had a wonderful time
and I'm extremely grateful to Dorrie for sharing all of those great
old wines with us.
