The house in which
we're staying is actually owned by our neighbour, Johannes, a lovely,
amiable Greek man who speaks good English. Johannes also owns quite a
bit of the adjoining land, on which he grows a wide variety of fruits
and vegetables, including quite a few olive trees (but of course),
and keeps chickens. Today, he took the girls out with him to collect
produce and they returned with loads of eggplants (aubergines),
zucchinis (courgettes), grapes, mandarins, cucumbers and eggs. The
girls love him and have since spent quite a bit of time 'helping'
him. He seems to enjoy their company and even caught some goldfish
for them from his pond. We're hoping that he'll begin his olive
harvest while we're still here so we can all take part.
