We all got a
slightly better night's sleep last night than we did on our way to
Bagan. We had moved out of the peanut zone and into the rice-growing
region by the time we woke up and as we passed through the rice
paddies, where large numbers of snow-white egrets hunted, we passed
through another rain shower, heavy enough this time for us to close
the windows for a while. The train started to get bumpy again as we
approached Yangon and we were soon laughing away as we were thrown
around the compartment.
When we arrived in
Yangon, we walked to the hotel, stopping off for some corn on the
cob, 'focaccia' and drinks on the way. We've visited the focaccia
stall so often while we've been in Yangon that the woman manning it
recognised me and gave me an extra half of one for free. When we
checked into the hotel, we were told that the family room in which we
had stayed last time had sprung a leak, so we were given two separate
rooms. We ate the street food we had bought in the hotel restaurant
and then went out to try to do some shopping, but we couldn't find
the streets that specialised in the things we wanted to buy, so we
returned to the hotel empty-handed. For dinner, we went back to
Barbecue Street and then stopped off at some fruit stalls on the way
home for dessert.
